Weekly Inspiration: Goal Setting

Goal setting is step #1 in accomplishing most things. How can you reach your destination if you don’t know where you want to go? Let’s all use the last few days of 2014 to reflect on our successes and failures of the past year. Give yourself credit for your accomplishments, but don’t condemn yourself for the areas in which you’ve fallen short. Resolve to do even better in 2015.
Today, I’m making a list of my goals for the new year. I’ll frequently look back at this list as the months pass. It’s OK to make revisions to the list as goals and desires change; but be careful not to make those changes because you’re “giving up”.
Of course, setting a goal won’t do much without step #2- create an action plan. You can’t just “wish” for anything. Once you’ve decided to achieve something, start mapping out a step by step route to reach your goal. Even if you can’t plan your way all the way to the finish line, get started. Take your first steps in faith and start moving towards your goal. Reassess as you go.
Along the way…
Keep your eyes on the prize and stay focused. I even like to make little reminders for myself. Maybe you can write your big goal above your bed, so that you see it each morning when you wake up, and you’re reminded of it before you go to sleep. Want to lose weight? What about hanging pictures of your fit dream body on the fridge? That way, when you go to reach for that iced cream, you’ll be reminded that your goal is more important than the sugar fix you’re craving in that moment.
Really want to reach your goals this year? Time to bust out my favorite quote, again:
“The main thing, is to keep the main thing the main thing.” – George St. Pierre
